CHIANG MAI — Myanmar’s milit fired on a Chinese Red Cross convoy that was transporting relief supplies to victims of the March 28 earthquake, the regime has confirmed.

Major General Zaw Min Tun, the regime spokesman, said in a statement that at about 9:30 p.m. on April 1 troops fired on a convoy of nine vehicles that had not informed the embassy’s milit attache’s office of its proposed route. The incident occurred in Nawnghkio township in Shan state, north of Mandalay, the city nearest the epicenter. The area has witnessed repeated clashes during the civil war that has engulfed Myanmar since the milit seized power in 2021.
