Karachi power consumers may get another relief as K-Electric requests for reduction
KARACHI: K-Electric has requested a reduction in electricity prices, potentially bringing relief to power consumers in Karachi, news reported.
K-Electric has requested NEPRA to reduce the power tariff by Rs6.62 per unit in the monthly fuel adjustment for Febru. If approved, this reduction would provide a total relief of Rs6.66 billion.
K-Electric submitted its request to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), but NEPRA has not yet announced a hearing date.
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced a significant reduction in electricity prices, calling it a major relief for the public. Speaking at an event organized for the announcement, he revealed that the government decided to lower the electricity tariff by Rs 7.41 per unit for domestic consumers and Rs 7.59 per unit for industries.
The prime minister expressed confidence that the reduction would stimulate economic activities across the country, calling it a gift to the nation in celebration of Eid.
Following Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent announcement regarding a reduction in electricity prices, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) issued an official notification confirming the price cut under the quarterly adjustment.
The notification provides consumers with relief of up to Rs 3.02 per unit. It also applies an adjustment of Rs1.90 per unit for the October-December 2024 quarter, which will take effect from April to June 2025.
