FRANKFURT, Germany/TOKYO — The European Union is considering a virtual ban on carbon fiber in motor vehicles that could take a toll on the material’s Japanese manufacturers, which have more than half of the global market share, Nikkei learned on Tuesday.

The proposed crackdown, which is intended to tackle potential health risks associated with the composite material’s disposal, would be the first such set of restrictions imposed anywhere in the world.
