SINGAPORE — Singapore will hold a general election on May 3, the country’s Elections Department announced after parliament was dissolved on Tuesday, allowing Prime Minister Lawrence Wong to seek his first mandate as leader of the ruling People’s Action Party (PAP).

In a statement, the Prime Minister’s Office said nomination day — the official start of the campaign period — will be on April 23.
