TOKYO — Extreme weather and U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs threaten to accelerate a rise in international trading prices of coffee beans, with a United Nations body estimating that consumers could feel the pinch from the second half of this year to 2026.
The international price of Arabica beans, which are mainly used in cafes, broke the $9-per-kilogram threshold in Febru. It dropped slightly to $8.90 in March, still 1.9 times higher on the year.
