TOKYO — The number of foreign visitors to Japan hit a record 10.5 million during the first quarter, helped by an influx of Chinese tourists thanks to easing visa rules and cheaper flight tickets.

The figure represents an increase of 23.1% on the year. In March alone, 3.50 million foreigners visited Japan, the second highest monthly number after Janu’s 3.78 million.
