SINGAPORE — Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat, a senior politician once considered a likely successor to former Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, will not run in the city-state’s general election, highlighting the ruling People’s Action Party’s generational shift.

On Wednesday, political parties in the city-state filed nominations for candidates running in the May 3 polls, kicking off the nine-day campaign.
