SEOUL — SK Hynix’s profit dipped nearly 8% in the first quarter, though it outperformed market expectations thanks to intensifying AI competition and a rush of orders from clients looking to get ahead of U.S. tariffs.

The South Korean chipmaker’s operating profit fell 7.9% from the previous quarter to 7.4 trillion won ($5.2 billion), while revenue dropped 10.8% to 17.6 trillion. The first three months of the year are traditionally a slower period for chip demand.
