BANGKOK/KUALA LUMPUR — Senior Gen. Min Aung Hlaing, the leader of the milit regime of civil war-ravaged Myanmar, has given no indication whether he will extend the ceasefire he declared in areas affected by the deadly March earthquake after it expires Wednesday.
Diplomats and analysts, however, say any extension will mean little because regime airstrikes have continued, including in regions affected by the 7.7-magnitude temblor, with almost the same intensity as before the disaster. The United Nations says the quake left 3,800 people dead and 5,000 injured.
