SYDNEY — Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese declared victory on Saturday as his center-left Labor Party scored a landslide in the country’s federal election, a triumph apparently driven in part by voter distaste for U.S. President Donald Trump.
“In this time of global uncertainty, Australians have chosen optimism and determination,” Albanese said in front of a raucous crowd at Labor’s election night party in Sydney, which broke out into chants of “Albo” — the leader’s nickname.
