KARACHI: More than 50,000 animals have arrived at the Northern Bypass Cattle Market in Karachi, a significant influx for Eid ul-Adha preparations.

The market, considered the largest in Asia, sees animals arriving from various regions, including Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab.

Since the market opened on April 17, the buying and selling of cattle — including cows, bulls, calves, goats, and camels — has been steadily underway and continues to intensify.

The marshalling area is witnessing long queues of animal-laden trucks arriving from across the country. Blocks designated as VVIP, VIP, Sapphire, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Sindh, and Punjab are now fully occupied with sacrificial animals.

In response to the growing number of animals, the market administration has expanded the area to 1,200 acres, ensuring ample space for traders and buyers.

Administrator Faisal Ali stated that the market resembles a festive fair, especially at night. Facilities such as 24-hour food streets and mobile banking services are being provided for the convenience of visitors and traders.

To encourage livestock traders, Administrator Shahab Ali organized a lucky draw, in which Imdad Ali, a trader from Larkana, won a motorcycle.

The influx of sacrificial animals continues daily, with market activity expected to rise further in the lead-up to Eid.
