TOKYO — Japan Display announced on Thursday that it will cut approximately 1,500 employees, more than half of its domestic workforce, as it restructures its business amid continuing losses.

The Japanese panel supplier will offer volunt retirement to employees in Japan, where it had 2,639 employees at the end of March. The company aims to reduce annual labor costs by 13.5 billion yen ($92.5 million). Personnel reductions will also be implemented overseas.
