SEOUL — South Korea’s presidential candidates have pledged to nurture an artificial intelligence economy, promising to develop the country’s own large language model (LLM) to let people use generative AI services for free.
Lee Jae-myung of the liberal opposition Democratic Party said that, if he wins the June 3 election, his administration would support South Korea’s private sector in jointly developing a sovereign LLM to replace ChatGPT, the generative AI technology from OpenAI.
