TOKYO — Japanese chipmaker Renesas Electronics has abandoned a plan to produce power semiconductors using a new material, retreating from an “early 2025” scheduled production launch at its plant in Takasaki, Gunma prefecture, Nikkei has learned.
The market environment for the chip, meant for electric vehicles, has worsened as demand for EVs slides and Chinese chipmakers increase production on the back of government subsidies.
