Japan Breaks Internet Speed Record Over 1,100-Mile Distance
Japan has broken the world record for internet speed by reaching 1.02 petabits per second, which is more than one million gigabytes per second, over a distance of 1,808 kilometers. This was done using a new type of 19-core optical fiber.
The fiber is extremely thin, only 0.125 millimeters wide, but it can carry a huge amount of data. This technology could help power future advancements like artificial intelligence, 6G networks, and the Internet of Things.
What makes this breakthrough special is that, unlike earlier versions that worked only over short distances, this fiber keeps its speed even over long distances without losing quality. It’s similar to turning a single-lane road into a 19-lane highway for data.
This development is an important step toward building faster and more powerful digital systems for the future.
