WASHINGTON — The U.S. Defense Department has picked former congressional staffer John Noh to be assistant secret of defense for Indo-Pacific security affairs, making him the top official for the region if confirmed.

In nominations sent to Congress on Monday, the Pentagon also presented Alexander Velez-Green, known as a “prioritizer” and former national security adviser to Sen. Josh Hawley of Missouri, to be the deputy undersecret of defense for policy.
