PHNOM PENH — A Cambodian soldier was killed when Thai and Cambodian troops exchanged fire across the border on May 28.
The shooting was rooted in disputes between the two countries that go back more than a century. Both countries have transitioned to second-generation leadership in recent years, and their diplomatic relations had appeared to be improving.
