Cairo: Zwelivelile Mandela, the grandson of late anti-apartheid icon Nelson Mandela, has reportedly had his passport seized upon arriving in Egypt to participate in the “Global March to Gaza.”
Mandela stated that he is currently at a checkpoint in Cairo and his passport has been confiscated.
The “Global March to Gaza” is an initiative aimed at breaking the Israeli blockade on Gaza, which participants argue has pushed the region to the brink of famine. The march is expected to involve approximately 4,000 volunteers from over 80 countries.
It is important to note that since October 2023, ongoing Israeli attacks in Gaza have resulted in the deaths of over 54,000 Palestinians, with more than 126,000 injured.
Furthermore, Israel has maintained a blockade on Gaza since the collapse of a deal (several months ago), leading to severe depletion of food and essential supplies for the population.
