Islamabad: The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is scheduled to hold its meeting today to observe the crescent moon marking the beginning of Muharram-ul-Haram 1447 AH.
According to the Ministry of Religious Affairs’ spokesperson, the committee’s session will take place after Asr prayers at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Quetta, with Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad presiding.
Zonal committees across the provinces will also conduct their respective meetings to assist in the moon sighting process.
The spokesperson emphasized that the final decision regarding the moon’s sighting or non-sighting will be announced by the Chairman of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
Meanwhile, the SUPARCO astronomical observatory has issued its forecast for the new moon. Based on astronomical calculations, the moon will be approximately 28 hours and 15 minutes old at sunset today (June 26). In coastal regions, the time between sunset and moonset is expected to be around 75 minutes, creating favorable conditions for a successful sighting.
SUPARCO spokesperson added that, considering the current astronomical data, there is a strong likelihood of sighting the new moon on the evening of June 26, 2025. Accordingly, the first day of Muharram-ul-Haram 1447 AH is anticipated to fall on June 27, 2025.
