SYDNEY — Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on Monday signed a treaty with Nauru’s leader, David Adeang, pledging millions of dollars in an effort to prevent China from further expanding its presence in the Pacific.
As part of the arrangement, Canberra will provide Nauru with 100 million Australian dollars ($64 million) in direct budget support and A$40 million for policing and security over five years.
