NEW YORK — The U.S. Commerce Department finalized a rule Tuesday that will prohibit imports of certain Chinese software and hardware involving connected cars on national security grounds, effectively banning passenger vehicles from China.
“Cars today aren’t just steel on wheels — they’re computers,” Commerce Secret Gina Raimondo said in a press release. “They have cameras, microphones, GPS tracking, and other technologies that are connected to the internet.”
