KARACHI: The People’s Bus Service has announced an increase in fares, effective Janu 2025, affecting thousands of daily commuters in Pakistan’s largest city.
As per the revised fare structure, passengers traveling up to 15 kilometers will now pay Rs 80, while those journeying beyond 15 kilometers will be charged Rs 120. The transport authorities have displayed notices on passenger coaches to inform commuters about the fare adjustments.
The administration of the People’s Bus Service emphasized that the increase was necess to ensure the continuation of safe, reliable, and comfortable transport. Officials expressed gratitude for commuter support and urged cooperation amid the changes.
The move has sparked mixed reactions from the public, who will see increased transportation costs starting next month. Despite this, provincial authorities noted that over 100,000 passengers utilize the Red Line bus service daily, benefitting from a government subsidy of Rs 50 per passenger under the initiative led by the PPP government.
