TAIPEI — Taiwan is vital to answering the question of how to strengthen Europe’s defense supply chain, the chairman of the Czech Republic’s Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Security told Nikkei Asia, warning bloc members against allowing China to dictate their engagement with Taipei.
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine proved that “we are not in a secured world” and that internationally recognized borders and rules can be trampled upon even by a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, Pavel Fischer, an influential Czech senator and former ambassador, said in an interview while visiting Taiwan. “Russia is not alone,” he added, “because there is a huge complicity on behalf of China from the very beginning,” pointing to financial backing and the provision of “various dual-use technologies.”
