TAIPEI — Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. on Monday held a ceremony for the upcoming launch of a next-generation fabrication facility in Kaohsiung, signaling its commitment to developing and producing state-of-the-art chips in Taiwan even amid big investments in the U.S.
“We will continue to expand investment in Taiwan in close consultation with the relevant agencies,” Y.P. Chyn, TSMC’s co-chief operating officer, said at the event for the facility, in which the chipmaker is investing more than 1.5 trillion New Taiwan dollars ($45.2 billion).
