BANGKOK/YANGON — Myanmar’s milit government has released Chit Khine, chairman of conglomerate Eden Group, after three years in detention as the country’s economy and infrastructure struggle to recover from last month’s earthquake.
A relative of the chairman told Nikkei that he was released Saturday. Chit Khine had been held in a prison in Mandalay, which suffered severe damage in the 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck near the city on March 28. He is reportedly in good health.
