After nearly a decade in the film industry, Bhumi Pednekar is preparing for her debut on a streaming platform. She will star in the upcoming Netflix series The Royals, set to premiere on May 9, 2025. In a recent interview, Bhumi revealed that she turned down several shows, stating, “I have had the opportunity to read some phenomenal shows, but I never connected with them the way I connected with The Royals.”
In a chat with HT, Bhumi Pednekar revealed that she had turned down several web shows that later became major successes.
She explained that “while those projects were impressive, she didn’t feel the same connection with them as she did with The Royals. According to her, the decision also reflected the kind of roles she was looking for at that stage in her career.”
Bhumi shared that the script and the genre both influenced her decision to say yes to The Royals. She expressed her love for romantic comedies, calling it her all-time favorite genre, and added that she feels filmmakers aren’t making enough of them.
Recalling when she first read the script, Bhumi revealed that she had been hospitalized with dengue at the time, but once she started reading, she couldn’t put it down.
The Royals presents a charming romantic comedy set against the backdrop of royal life, offering a fresh take on love between two vastly different worlds. The show promises to deliver an entertaining experience as the clash between these contrasting environments generates both sparks and tension.
Neha Veena Sharma developed and wrote The Royals, which Priyanka Ghose and Nupur Asthana directed. Rangita Pritish Nandy and Ishita Pritish Nandy produced the series, with Ishaan Khatter and Bhumi Pednekar in lead roles.
The show also features a talented ensemble cast, with Ishaan Khatter, Sakshi Tanwar, Nora Fatehi, Milind Soman, Dino Morea, Chunky Panday, Vihaan Samat, Kavya Trehan, Sumukhi Suresh, Udit Arora, Lisa Mishra, and Luke Kenny playing pivotal roles. It also marks the highly anticipated acting comeback of the legend actress Zeenat Aman.
