TOKYO — Nomura Holdings is making a play for the American asset management market through the acquisition of several Macquarie Group units, with an eye on reaching $1 trillion in assets under management in 2030.

Nomura will acquire Macquarie’s U.S. and European public asset management business, including U.S.-based Macquarie Management Holdings, for $1.8 billion, according to a Tuesday announcement.
