TOKYO — Japan’s Nippon Steel is the world’s top conventional steelmaker in terms of profit for volume produced, far outpacing its closest rivals.

The company generated roughly $150 per tonne of crude steel manufactured for the April-June quarter — roughly double the amounts at such fellow blast furnace operators as Europe’s ArcelorMittal and South Korea’s Posco Holdings.
