WASHINGTON — The U.S. has “no currency targets” in mind for negotiations with Japan over sweeping new tariffs, U.S. Treasury Secret Scott Bessent said Wednesday, signaling discussions will focus on the countries’ trade imbalance.

“We are looking at multiple factors: tariffs, nontariff trade barriers, currency manipulation and government subsidies,” he told Nikkei and other news outlets.
