SEOUL — South Korea’s Supreme Court on Thursday threw out a lower court’s acquittal of presidential frontrunner Lee Jae-myung of the Democratic Party, casting a shadow over a snap election coming in a month.

The top court ruled that Lee violated election law three years ago by making false comments during a previous presidential bid. One of the false comments that the top court ruled on was a denial by Lee that he had played golf with his staff.
