PM Shehbaz launches NIFTAC to boost fight against terrorism
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday officially inaugurated the state-of-the-art National Intelligence Fusion and Threat Assessment Centre (NIFTAC), positioning it as the central hub for coordinating Pakistan’s national counterterrorism strategy.
NIFTAC integrates over 50 relevant federal and provincial departments and agencies into a unified intelligence and threat management system, operating as a federal institution supported by a centralized national database.
It connects directly to six Provincial Intelligence Fusion and Threat Assessment Centres (PIFTACs), including those in Azad Jammu & Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, to ensure seamless coordination between the federation and the provinces.
This integrated framework harmonizes intelligence gathering, analysis, and operational responses across multiple domains. By leveraging the full range of institutional capabilities, NIFTAC enhances national preparedness, optimizes resource utilization, and ensures a coherent and timely counterterrorism response.
The Prime Minister commended the efforts of all stakeholders involved in operationalizing this vital capability, describing NIFTAC as an essential national platform for collaborative threat assessment and response. He emphasized that dismantling the nexus between terrorism, illicit networks, and external sponsorship requires robust and efficient institutional mechanisms.
He noted that NIFTAC will play a pivotal role in uprooting terrorism and its support structures from the country.
