BEIJING — When the U.S. and China entered a 90-day truce to a trade war that had rattled global markets for the past month, Hu Xijin, a former editor-in-chief of China’s state newspaper Global Times, was quick to declare the winner.
“Outstanding!” Xu wrote on China’s microblogging platform Weibo on Monday, the day the deal was announced. Xu hailed the agreement as an achievement that “went beyond most people’s expectations” and a “huge victory for China.”
