KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said on Monday he had written to Donald Trump proposing a meeting between the U.S. President and Southeast Asian leaders in a bid to alleviate the fallout from Washington’s sweeping new tariffs.
Anwar, whose country holds ASEAN’s rotating chair this year, said in his opening remarks at a summit of the bloc in Kuala Lumpur that he reached out to Trump to “seek his understanding” to hold a U.S.-ASEAN summit.
