TOKYO — Japanese sports data analytics firm Next Base has signed a deal with the Chicago Cubs to assist the U.S. Major League Baseball team in preventing pitchers from developing elbow injuries.
Next Base, based in Tokyo, will send analysts to the Cubs’ spring training camp next year. They will use sensors to collect data including the pitchers’ fingertip motion, ball rotation and energy efficiency.
