WASHINGTON — Northeast Asia is at risk of having five nuclear powers — by adding South Korea and Japan to Russia, China and North Korea — while Pyongyang is far less likely to give up its nuclear program than during U.S. President Donald Trump’s first term, Singaporean Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan told the Hudson Institute here on Friday.
Singapore hosted the first summit between Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in June 2018. But asked if another meeting could spur progress, Balakrishnan said, “Time has moved on since the past seven years, and actually the question of nuclear proliferation now, it goes beyond just North Korea.”
