TOKYO — Japanese chipmaker Renesas Electronics will cut up to several hundred jobs this year, Nikkei has learned, amid weak demand for a broad range of chips.

Renesas has informed employees of plans to cut less than 5% of its roughly 21,000 jobs in Japan and overseas. The company also will postpone regular sal increases that were to take effect in the spring.
