WASHINGTON — For the second straight day, the Biden administration has taken action on artificial intelligence, this time opening up federal land for construction of large-scale data centers and promising to cut red tape to ensure projects move ahead in a speedy fashion.

The Tuesday order tasks the Department of Defense and the Department of Energy with identifying at least six federal sites that can be leased to private-sector companies to build gigawatt-scale AI data centers.
