TOKYO/SEOUL — Shares of Japanese and South Korean automakers slid Thursday morning after U.S. President Donald Trump imposed 25% tariffs on all cars shipped to that country in his latest trade salvo.

Smaller Japanese automakers dependent on the U.S. for sales but behind in onshore production were hit hard. Subaru dropped 6.3%, and Mazda Motor lost 5.8%. Toyota, the country’s largest automobile manufacturer, was off 3.3%, and Honda was down around 2%.
