TOKYO — Aeon, Japan’s largest retailer, plans to expand its network of big supermarkets and general merchandise stores in Vietnam eightfold by 2030, looking to a country with a large, younger population as a foundation for its overseas growth.

The company in Janu opened Aeon Xuan Thuy, a general merchandise store in an area of Hanoi with offices, schools and a new subway station. The first three of the building’s four floors sell food as well as cosmetics, furniture and clothing. The store was recently packed with local customers even on a workday.
